An afternoon in the meadow

Finding myself at a loose end a couple of weeks ago, I took a stroll down to Burford meadow, a relatively small patch of land that encompasses a section of the River Windrush, as it meanders on its picturesque journey through the Cotswolds, before spilling into the Thames at Newbridge.

The meadow was sporting a good crop of buttercups, and a handsome herd of cows, so it was no chore to spend an afternoon wandering over the boggy ground, amongst the fresh spring growth.

I stumbled across this herd at the weekend, they had obviously just finished gorging on a fresh carcass, probably an unlucky sheep, or an unfit dog walker. But I could tell by the way they stared at me, their craving for flesh was far from sated.

I quickly made my excuses and got out of that field in double time. So take this as a word of warning, if you're in the Cotswold area just keep your eyes open, and always let someone else know where you are going.
